Significant growth and the acquisition of new talent led to the opening of a new office and expanded expertise in Romania – and Managing Director Lucian Butnaru is looking forward to even more intra-group collaboration.
After hiring 50 new developers, system and support engineers, a new Cegeka Romania location was established in Iasi in 2016, a dynamic city home to quality universities and burgeoning IT and R&D activities. In addition to new and continuing projects for ING, The Glue and Q-Park, intra-group collaboration was also a key feature of the previous year, with Cegeka Romania providing development expertise to projects alongside Cegeka Germany, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands (Cegeka-dsa). The Romania business doesn’t simply provide application outsourcing; our group-wide business support team is responsible for Cegeka’s SharePoint sites and internal CRM development.
“Cegeka Romania continues to build on its significant development expertise,” Lucian asserts. “More and more, we’re working in blended teams containing developers from multiple Cegeka businesses across Europe to enable the most efficient, effective and agile projects possible.”
In 2017, Lucian and his team will focus on implementing a new market plan that expands the company’s business in the areas of agile transformation, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
“Machine learning is one of the biggest digital transformation projects on the horizon, with applications in warehouse management, infrastructure, quality control and other key industries. Our expertise puts us in the ideal position to innovate in these areas.”
50 additional developers will be hired in Iasi in 2017, bringing the number of Cegeka staff in Romania up to 500. “As the main nearshore center of Cegeka’s R&D and software product expertise, it is essential for Cegeka Romania to continuously broaden our offering as well as our talent pool.”Giving developing IT talent the means to thrive
“One of the keys to addressing future digital transformation challenges lies in fostering the right expertise and investing in education. On that front, Cegeka Labs has been a huge success. We’ve enabled students at two excellent Romanian universities and one tech-oriented high school to use the best infrastructure to complete their IT projects using agile development tenets,” Lucian concludes.
